GOLF NEWS
Road layout change
Golf Warehouse Ellerslie:Driving Range will soon have a new entry and exit road from July 20th. The Ellerslie Racing Club has nearly completed the roading into the centerfield and this is good news for all our car tyres!
Entry will continue for a little longer via Ascot Ave, Greenlane. However all golf traffic will exit from the newly built internal road and tunnel under the racecourse through to Ellerslie Derby Downs Ladies Mile, area. Eventually all traffic flow will enter and exit from Ellerslie. Please be aware of the changes so you can plan for any traffic delays during the re routing.
The recent heavy rainfall has had a massive impact on the driving range and has also caused a lot of class cancellations this year. Pease be aware that if you are practicing there is still a 50 ball limit. Opening and closing times have also been impacted so keep checking these with GW or myself. At the moment 10am-6pm times are in place for driving range use, but these may lift if the weather improves.
GOLF TIPS
Focus on your foot work and legs. Pay attention to your balance via your feet and use the ground force to feel stablility. Push against the ground to help your rotation and weight transfer finishing up onto your tippee toe at the end of your full swing.
GOLF QUESTION
Question: What does Carry Distance mean?
Answer: Carry distance is how far the ball stays in the air before it hits the ground.
It is important to know the carry distance so you can choose the right club to hit over the bunkers onto the green, or hazards or layup shots on the fairways.
Golf technology has certainly helped golfers understand the difference between Carry Distance and Total Distance. Top Tracer technology at the Golf Wareshouse Driving Range can assist golfers estimating the Carry distance (How far the ball flies in the air before it lands). It will also estimate how far your ball will roll according to your ball speed off the clubface.
2024 THREE DAY GOLF SCHOOLS
My November 3-day school has sold out. My 2024 dates are now on my website. http://www.susanfarrongolf.com If you have not been to a golf school before, it is slightly different from having a conventional 60 min lesson.
We discuss a variety of topics in a holistic way to get an overall feel and vibe for your golf game enjoyment.
The morning sessions focus on waking up your golf muscles. Finding your tempo and rhythm, checking swing fundamentals for short game and full shots.
There is a big focus on the mental side of the game focusing on building your very own consistent routine with confidence for our afternoon 9 hole game.
All schools include staying at the Rydges Formosa villas including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Attending the school without accomodation will only be available for last minute waitlists if the villas cannot be filled.

GOLF NEWS
Allisen Corpuz wins 78th US Womens Open at Pebble Beach in California.
While many of us were cheering on Lydia Ko and newly turned kiwi professional Amelia Garvey at the US Womens Open at Pebble Beach, my attention quickly turned to Allisen Corpuz.
Allisen was a freshman at USC the same year I assisted Coach Gaston in the Spring of 2016. Corpuz couldn't make the starting line up as a freshman but I clearly remember her as a chilled, calm relaxed golfer. She was a fabulous team player and very open minded to learning from everyone. She was very patient in her journey to success. It is just amazing to see her climb to the top and win the U.S. Women’s Open on a prestigious stage and at Pebble Beach.
It is a good lesson for parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches and athletes to be patient. Not everyone's journey will be fast to success. Sometimes we may see huge potential and talent very early with athletes but this can fizzle too soon without the right support. When we are young we want things instantly and immediately. But with wisdom and experience we can nuture our young people to be patient and to value time.
Corpuz, at 25 years of age joined her fellow Hawaiian native Michelle Wie West as a U.S. Women’s Open champion, shooting a final-round, 3-under-par 69 (72-hole total of 9-under 279) to claim the 78th edition by three strokes over Charley Hull (66) and Jiyai Shin (68). Lydia Ko finsihed in a tie for 33rd and Amelia Garvey(also a USC graduate missed the cut. Allisen picked up a record first prize cheque in the womens game of $2 million. “My mind is racing,” said Corpuz, the first to win a women’s major title at Pebble Beach. “Like I said yesterday, this is really a dream come true. It was something I had dreamed of, but at the same time kind of just never really expected it to happen.” Allisen also received a shoutout from former U.S. President Barack Obama on Twitter, who like Corpuz and Michelle Wie West was a graduate of The Punahou School in Hawaii.
GOLF COURSE FEATURE:
If you are tired of the wet conditions in the north head to Wellington for the day. The Wellington area experienced a mild Autumn and Winter so far. There is no place better to play golf in the Wellington area than at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. A true links beachside course 50 mins north on the Kapiiti Coast. The course is dry under foot and a must for any enthusiastic golfer. Having recently visited Wellington on a blue sky day it is totally worth the trip. A big shout out to my brother John for his fantastic achievement recently.
He won't mind me sharing this written piece via the Paraparaumu Golf Club newsletter.
John Farron is no stranger to speed golf as a regular sub one hour gamer on our links and participant at national speed golf level. Today he decided to mix things up a little and took on his own variation with a “shortest day” challenge. 100 holes in less than 6hrs and completed a full 6 rounds in an impressive 6.5hrs!!!! For a guy that’s never run more than a half marathon, he climbed the mountain metaphorically today, completing not only a marathon (well technically 43.1kms) but did so with club in hand. I asked John what club he used and he said a 7iron.
HOLE IN ONES
There is something specail about a Hole in One. It's sort of like wining Lotto or a small division of it. You keep buying a ticket hoping for some luck but usually it comes up empty but you just never know when you might strike it lucky.
Some people of course have had mutiple aces. The official PGA world reord goes to American, Mancil Davis. He is recognized as the all-time record-holder with 51 career holes-in-one.
Mancil Davis, commonly referred to as the 'King of Aces', holds the record in a pro career with 51 aces. Davis was born in Texas. He started playing the sport at a young age and scored his first ace at 11; his last came in 2007. Manci Davis played amateur and professional career before retiring. He was also a member of the PGA of America since 1974 and played the tour in 1975.
Well done to all that have had a hole in one recently.
Debbie Maindonald recently had her second hole in one on the17th hole at Rotorua Golf Club . Congratulations Deb. All your hard effort and practice must be paying off.
Di Maxwell also had a fantastic hole in one at RAGGC Grange number 4 ....This is a short tough hole Di to get a hole in one. So good on you.
Ro Macnicol shined oversesas in Scotland and got to celebrate in style with a hole in one on the 18th hole at Brora Golf Club.
